Have you heard about Earth Day?
Earth Day is an annual, global reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the planet and take meaningful action toward a more sustainable future which takes place each year on 22nd April.
Earth Day 2026 @ Washington Mind
At Washington Mind, we are passionate about caring for our planet, because we recognise how deeply it cares for us.
Spending time in nature can have a powerful positive impact on mental health and wellbeing, so protecting and nurturing these spaces is at the heart of what we do, especially as we reflect on the importance of Earth Day 2026.
We are proud to take practical steps toward sustainability across our community, including:
- Maintaining a thriving community garden, which produces fresh ingredients for Café Life while creating a peaceful, green space for people to connect with nature.
- Using composting bins to recycle food and garden waste, turning it into nutrient-rich compost that feeds back into our garden.
- Creating an insect (bug) hotel in our community garden to provide habitats for pollinators, boosting biodiversity and supporting plant growth.
- Maintaining a sensory garden with a diverse mix of herbs and flowering plants to enhance biodiversity while providing a calming, engaging space for the community.
- Offering vegan specials in Café Life whenever possible, helping to reduce our environmental impact.
- Encouraging reuse by offering reusable hot drink mugs, available for £2.50, which also give customers 20p off hot drink purchases.
- Offering free water refills to encourage reuse, reduce single-use plastic waste, and support a more sustainable community.
- Supporting active travel, and reduced carbon emissions, by providing a bike rack at The Life House for those who choose to cycle.
- Welcoming craft material donations from the community, helping to reduce waste and give resources a second life.
Together, these efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to sustainability, wellbeing, and community action, because protecting our planet starts with the choices we make every day.
