Buxton Movers

Washington Mind launches Buxton Movers to support people into running

A mental health charity in Sunderland has launched Buxton Movers, a new 12-week programme in partnership with Mind and Buxton Water to help people build confidence, boost wellbeing and get into running.

Run by Washington Mind, the programme is designed for people who want to improve their mental health through, structured physical activity in a friendly and supportive group environment.

Led by a qualified run leader, the group will progress from Couch to 5k over 12 weeks, helping participants develop fitness, confidence and the motivation to continue running independently, take part in parkrun, or join other community running activities.

Hayley Jarvis, Head of Physical Activity at Mind, said: “We know that being active and connecting with others can really support our mental health. But when you’re struggling, getting started can feel tough. Programmes like Buxton Movers help make that first step easier, offering support through movement and community. Physical activity isn’t a replacement for therapy or medication, but it can work alongside them and make a real difference to how people feel.”
