Our new service is called Supported Self-Help, which is a free six-week programme that works with you, to support you to recognise and understand your emotions.

What is supported self-help?

Supported self-help is a six-week guided programme that works with you, to support you to recognise and understand your emotions. We give you the materials to understand and manage your feelings. And we meet or call you regularly to give you support.

Who is it for?

If you live in England or Wales, and are over 18, you can sign up today.

Maybe you feel that issues such as stress or anxiety are getting too much. Or, you have a diagnosed mental health problem and would like to try something alongside your other treatments. Get in touch to find out if supported self-help is right for you

How do I sign up?

Using the Limbic Chatbot on the Mind website, fill in your contact details, and one of our trained team will be in touch within a week to talk through the service and how it can help you. Click here to sign up.

How can it help me?

Supported self-help works by giving you insight into your mental health and giving you practical ways to understand and manage your emotions. By the end of the course, you should have more understanding of feelings, why you are experiencing them and how to manage them, and feel more in control.

1st Stage
Feeling low, stressed or struggling to manage things in your life?

3rd Stage
One of our practitioners will contact you to talk about the issues you’re dealing with. If supported self-help is right for you, together you’ll agree a programme of support. This can cover any of the following:

  • Anxiety
  • Anger management
  • Depression
  • Feeling alone
  • Grief and loss
  • Self-esteem
  • Stress
  • Menopause
4th Stage
If you move forward with supported self-help, you will be invited to a 40 minute session to discuss in more detail what support you are looking for.
5th Stage
Each week, we will have a face-to-face meeting or call to check in on how you’re doing and give you any support you might need. You’ll also receive a new package of materials on a different topic; these materials might include explanations of how and why we experience different feelings, a thought diary, or mindfulness technqiues.
6th Stage
In your last session, together we’ll review how you’re feeling and talk about the ways the course has helped. We will talk about what’s next and if Washington Mind or other local organisations can support you in any other ways.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have an existing mental health problem, is this right for me?

Supported self-help can work alongside other treatment plans and our practitioners will take you through the programme and whether it is right for you, in your first consultation. If you have different needs, your practitioner will be able to to put you in touch with other services that might be able to help.

Do I need a GP referral?

No, you can start supported self-help by filling in the form on the Mind Website; click here to visit the site

How serious do my problems need to be?

This is a service for anyone who feels that their emotions are getting on top of them, and this could be for many reasons. You do not need to have a diagnosed mental health problem to access this service.

 

I signed up but I haven’t been contacted yet. When will you contact me?

You should have been contacted within seven days. Please check your junk mail if you have chosen to be contacted by email. If you have heard nothing, please email supportedselfhelp@mind.org.uk 

How much does it cost?

You do not need to pay to use supported self-help. It is a free service.

I don’t have access to an email address – can I still access the service?

Materials can be posted to you or given to you in person if you would prefer. This will be agreed in your first call with your practitioner.

Booking and Cancellation Policy

Whilst there is no payment taken at the time of booking your fully funded space via our online booking system Washington Mind reserves the right to charge a £50.00 fee as agreed with funders for the following:

  • Cancellation of attendance within 0 - 7 days before the training session
  • None attendance on the day of the training session ( DNA)
  • None completion of all sessions that apply to delivery of the course in full.
  • An alternative delegate may be substituted by an organisation without charge for the whole course. Delegates can NOT be substituted partway through the training course.
  • The delegate is aware that Washington Mind’s mental health training programme covers emotive subjects such as suicide, self-harm, death and dying.
  • By submitting the booking form, the delegate agrees to the dates, times and the subsequent charge referenced
  • The delegate must be able to attend the training session in FULL
  • Washington Mind reserve the right to cancel a training session for operational reasons at any time
  • Please contact Washington Mind if you wish to discuss or clarify anything further before making a booking
