The Stories We Tell and Are Told – A narrative approach to death and dying (creating a more grief aware society) is a half day training programme for people living, working and/or volunteering across Sunderland who want to open up the conversation about grief.

The training aims to change the way in which we talk about death and dying, how we support a person with their grief and how we can challenge and change our expectations of what grief ‘should’ be.

Together we will explore…

  • The impact of grief upon families, friends, and communities.
  • Attitudes that are often associated with grief, grieving, and talking about grief
  • Alternative ways of understanding grief
  • How we can support others and ourselves as we grieve

This is indeed a difficult time and although the training may be timely – we are aware that it is also highly emotive therefore we ask that you do not attend this training if you are recently bereaved.

TSWT training has been well received and funding is extremely limited therefore the offer is for two places per workforce/business/organisation. Please book your place(s) as soon as you can. Please note that there will be a £50.00 charge for any non-attendance, noncompletion of the full course, or not having cancelled your space within 7 days from the date of required attendance. This charge is to protect the funding and ensure that it is used in its entirety and to its full benefit.

“This training has equipped me with the confidence now to ask questions and enter into a conversation which I would never have done prior to the training. It has helped me identify what could be unhelpful and I now think I would approach things differently.” (Supportive Person)
